A cabinet led by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has approved a 7.5 percent quota within the existing quota for undergraduate medical courses. The quota will be for class 12 students who have passed from government schools in Tamil Nadu. This quota will also include government seats in private medical colleges.

Meanwhile, the last date for correcting NEET application forms has been extended to 20 July.

Admission to the undergraduate medical courses in Tamil Nadu medical colleges will be based on performance in NEET 2020. For admission to 85 percent state quota seats, the state will hold Tamil Nadu NEET counselling.

The state had earlier filed for an exemption from NEET 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, this led to protests, as the opposition claimed it would be unfair to the students who have worked hard preparing for NEET 2020.

The National Testing Agency has postponed NEET 2020. The examination is now scheduled to be held on 13 September. NTA had also reopened the correction window to allow candidates to choose a convenient examination centre.

The admit card for NEET 2020 is expected to be released on 29 August.
