New Delhi: Some of the most prominent Mumbai colleges have planned to put a hold on degree admission after the third merit list to accommodate students from CBSE and ICSE who are awaiting their results.

Mumbai Colleges Put Submissions on Hold after Third Merit List for ICSE & CBSE students

The decision of these colleges to intake students from CBSE and ICSE comes as a relief, a day after the UGC's directive to the universities to fix the deadline of degree admission post the release of CBSE results

Although Mumbai University (MU) has not yet released any directives following this, many colleges in the city have eventually planned to pause the degree admissions after the release of the third merit list and start with phase II only after the CBSE and ICSE results are declared.

According to the admission schedule issued by MU, the third merit list is scheduled to be out today, however, some have already announced it, that is the HR College of Arts and KC College affiliated to the HSNC university have released their third merit list.

Dr Pooja Ramchandani said that there's a marginal drop in the cutoff score in the third merit list, as there was a huge crowd of students confirming their admissions after the release of the 2nd merit list. However, the colleges have decided to put the degree admissions on hold.

After the seats for CBSE and ICSE students are kept aside, the remaining vacant seats opened for degree admissions are filled by the HSC students leaving no choice for the college administration, but to wait for the CBSE & ICSE results, Pooja added.

In contrast, RD National College will release the third merit list today, where only a handful of seats are yet to be filled. Dr Neha Jagtiani, Principal, said that the college doesn't have any choice, but to depend on the additional intake of students offered by MU. The admission process will be closed for now until the CBSE and ICSE students seek admissions.

She also added how the self-financed courses at the college are almost full, while the third merit list is yet to be declared.

Opposing this, there are no sufficient applications at Wilson College, this year, which is why the college has planned to hold back for CBSE and ICSE results after the 3rd merit list.

Dr Anna Nikalje, Principal, said that the college has witnessed a huge crowd of ICSE students who couldn't apply without their results. However, with this decision and after two merit lists, more than half of the seats are still vacant.

Although Wilson College is set to follow the MU admission schedule and declare the third merit list today, the college will put a halt on admission and wait for CBSE and ICSE results.

The decision of MU to proceed with degree admissions without waiting for the CBSE and ICSE results was condemned. But many colleges in the city started the admissions procedure as per the MU admission schedule.

However, after the declaration of third merit list, till which MU had mentioned the degree admissions schedule, several city colleges have decided to hold back for the CBSE and ICSE results.

Meanwhile, the MU third merit list for undergraduate courses 2022 is scheduled to be out on July 14, while the document verification process for the same will be conducted between July 14 and July 16.
