New Delhi: The National board of Examinations in Medical sciences has lowered the par for filling of vacant PG seats across Madhya Pradesh. The cutoff has been dropped to 15 percentile across all the categories.

The cutoff drop would significantly impact around 300 vacant PG seats in Madhya Pradesh. Most of the seats are non-clinical.

According to a DGHS order of March 12, the cutoff percentile has been reduced by 15% across all the categories, resulting in the qualifying percentile for the general category has been dropped to 35th percentile. Whereas it has been reduced to 30th percentile for General PwD and for the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC), the percentile will be reduced to 25th.

In effect for general category candidates, the admissions could be from 35 percentile, which was earlier 50 percentile. The Mop up round percentile for the OBC/ST/SC candidates would be 25 percentile, whereas the earlier limit was fixed at 45 - 40 percentile respectively.

Post the second round of seat allotment in MP, a total of 254 seats remained vacant. According to an estimate, over 300 seats are vacant in all the medical college hospitals across the state.

The lowering of par is taking place for a second consecutive year. Last gear, the NBE had decreased the percentile less after two rounds.

There's a huge difference between percentile and percentage. The eligibility criteria  for admission into NEET exam has been decided based on percentile and not on the basis of percentage.

Percentile is an indication of the number of people an individual is ahead of, whereas percentage refers to the absolute marks obtained by the individual.

For instance, if the minimum qualifying percentile for a category is 45th, it means that the candidate from that category must score marks such that his/her marks are higher than the minimum of 45 % of the candidates appearing for the exam.

Due to a petition in the MP high court, the Mop up Round of NEET PG counselling in MP has not yet been decided.

Apart from this, there's another demand to reduce the Ayush PG percentile. On the lines of NEET PG, one of the spokesperson of MP AYUSH Medical Officer Association, Dr Rakesh Pandey has urged that the percentile in AYUSH PG should be decreased eo that the vacant seats can be filled on time.

Pandey said that every year, several seats in AYUSH colleges are vacant due to high percentile. The counseling authority of NEET PG 2022 has released an individual handbook notifying details and information of the counselling process and applicable reservation.

Earlier, the National medical commission, NMC had eliminated the fixed upper age limit to appear for the NEET UG examination.
