Maharaja Bir Bikram University Tripura has announced that it will introduce professional and foreign language courses, as well as a diploma programme on Goods and Service Tax, a first for the state.

The programmes include four evening diploma courses on GST, retail and sales management, insurance risk management and the Spanish language. Along with the one-year diploma courses, two Integrated Masters Degree courses on commerce and chemistry are also being launched.

The Controller of Examinations of MBBU said that the courses will open a window of employment opportunities for students. Those who have already completed their Higher Secondary examination with at least four subjects (including English) can get admitted to these courses.

For each course, a maximum of 60 students can be admitted by 31 August. All the new courses will be self-financed. Candidates will have to pay 23,000 INR per semester for the courses.

The vice-chancellor of MBBU said that the new courses will be beneficial for students who are targeting entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ventures. “Anyone having expertise in GST calculation would be of immense value to any industry at this moment,” the vice-chancellor said.

The vice-chancellor added that there is a large workforce seeking jobs worth 10,000 to 20,000 INR a month. This course will enable them to earn money from the comfort of their home state.

The vice-chancellor also said that he intended to begin new professional courses depending on the success of these courses.
