Kerala Medical College Admission 2021: Government medical colleges at locations namely, Idukki and Konni will officially start admissions soon.

In view of this, the Medical Education Department has submitted an application to the National Medical Commission seeking permission to start the admission process in two colleges. Through the admission process, a total of 100 seats each in Idukki Medical College and Konni Medical College will be filled.

Kerala University of Health Sciences has already given the approval to both the colleges to start the admission process. Currently, the private and government medical colleges in Kerala offer a total of 4,105 MBBS seats. However, construction work at the new medical college in Idukki is yet to be completed.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) will initially inspect and approve the request, after which both Idukki and Konni Medical Colleges will commence the admission procedure within this year itself.

Established during the UDF reign, the UDF government began admission in 50 seats in the Idukki Medical College. However, the LDF government cancelled the admission process and cancelled the functioning of the college after it was found that the college didn't offer adequate facilities.

Meanwhile, the students who participated in the admission process were shifted to Alappuzha Medical College.

Considering the efforts to get approval for the Konni Govt. Medical College, the Kerala government has initiated action to convert Pathanamthitta general hospital into a new medical college with hospitals. Also, 47 doctors from the general hospital were transferred to the medical college.

According to the medical education department, a part of the Central government project, the Pathanamthitta General Hospital will operate under Konni Medical College, which aims to upgrade district and general hospitals to medical colleges. The Manjeri and Idukki Hospitals were earlier upgraded in this manner.

At present, there are a total of 31 medical colleges including 10 Government medical colleges in Kerala. A total of 4,105 MBBS seats are offered among which 1555 seats belong to the Government medical colleges.
