A total of 1.94 lakh students applied for KCET 2020, out of which 1.47 lakh appeared on the first day at 487 exam centers across Karnataka, marking about 75 percent attendance. 

Sixty COVID-19 Positive students were among the 1.47 lakh who appeared for the entrance examination for Engineering and other courses which began on July 30, 2020, with precautionary measures such as social distancing.

Narayan, who holds the higher education portfolio, said 60 of the students, including from the city, were infected by the coronavirus with which special arrangements including separate seating had been made for them.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka said, “ Elaborate arrangements were made for the COVID-19 Positive students to appear for the exam. They were brought to the examination centers and dropped back to their respective places in the department’s ambulance. 

Taking all precautionary measures, usage of mask and sanitizers were made mandatory. In order to maintain social distancing, a maximum of 24 students was allowed in one exam hall.

Earlier he said, We are abiding by the guidelines issued by the high court. Masks, sanitizers, and social distancing are compulsory for the candidates. There are no shortcomings in the arrangements by the state government. Students can happily appear for the exam.

The Karnataka High Court on July 29, 2020, rejected a plea for a stay on the exams by petitioners who expressed concern that the conduct of the exam would push the students to the risk of COVID-19.

The KCET Counselling for seat allotment will be entirely done online, Narayan said.
