New Delhi: Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais has urged the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to reconsider the decision of implementing Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the upcoming academic session of 2022-23.

In a letter, the Jharkhand Governor informed the Union Minister of the problems and difficulties being faced while attempting to implement CUET.

Jharkhand Governor Urges to Reconsider Starting CUET from 2022

“Looking at the problems, it does not seem possible to follow and implement CUET for under-graduate programs in the state universities from the current session. So, reconsider the decision”, as stated by the Governor.

Earlier, the Governor informed that the Chairman of the University Grants Commission sent a letter carrying out instructions for the implementation of CUET from the academic session of 2022-23. This was for granting admission to multiple UG courses in various educational institutions of Jharkhand

As per a Raj Bhawan release, all of the state Vice-Chancellors, as well as the Higher Education Departments were directed to follow the guidelines related to CUET

While attempting to implement CUET, the Jharkhand Governor received much information regarding multiple difficulties being faced by various universities of the state in implementing CUET for the enrollment of students in the UG courses.

“The universities said that socio-economic background is not good for most of the students. The students from tribal and backward communities are not in a position to afford the application fee for CUET, which is approximately 500-600. This may increase the number of dropout cases,” as informed by the Governor.

The last date to apply for the CUET exam is May 22, 2022. The release also stated that there is still no clarity regarding the exam syllabus and pattern.

About CUET 2022

CUET will be conducted for admission to UG courses in central and state-level universities including private universities and deemed universities. This year, it will be the first time NTA is going to organise the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Earlier, the exam was known as CUCET and was conducted by the Central University of Rajasthan for 12 central universities.

As per the rule, CUET will be solely responsible for seeking admission to UG courses, not the Class 12 scores. However, the syllabus of CUET will be on the Class 12 syllabus so students have to go through it rigorously.

The exam will be conducted as per the Computer-based test model. The exam paper will be divided into three sections- Section IA, and IB will be language-based, Section II will be based on subject and Section III will be based on General Knowledge.
