Every third JEE mains 2020 qualified students have determined to opt-out of admissions to the IITs of the country. A Total Of 2.5 lakh students have qualified in JEE (Main) examination conducted by IIT DELHI in early September. 

Only 1.6 lakh students have registered for JEE Advanced which is likely to be held on September 27, 2020.

As IIT joint Director said ,Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, few JEE MAINS qualified students will opt for admission in NIT's rather to take JEE ADVANCED 2020.

Though during the years, there has been a trend among students to move out of admissions to premier IITs.

In 2015, 18 percent of 1.52 lakh IIT aspirants didn’t attempt JEE Advanced even though they cleared JEE Mains, the first stage. 

In 2018 only 1.6 lakh have registered for JEE Advance. In 2019 the number was 29 % of 2.45 lakhs or 1.7 lakh students.

Exam hosting cities

JEE Mains 2020 was conducted from 1 Sept to 6 Sept in 222 cities. Due to the COVID-19 JEE exam hosting City toll has also increased from 164 to 222 as compared to the early year.

Keeping in view the SOP's of social distancing, accordingly exam centers have been doubled from 600 to 1,150. 

JEE ADVANCE 2020 to be conducted on 27 September and October 8 respectively.
