Due to the rising coronavirus cases across the country, 11 students from 11 states have filed an urgent plea in the Supreme Court of India demanding postponement of the JEE Main, NEET 2020 exam.

The plea demands SC to direct the concerned authorities for the postponement of JEE Main, NEET entrance exams.

 As per sources, around 22 lakhs students are supposed to appear for these exams. For such a large number of candidates, it will be difficult to adhere to the social distancing norms.

Students File Petition in Supreme Court

The rising cases have made students and their parents concerned about their health and safety. Amid the rising concerns over the conduct of exams, 11 students from 11 states have filed a plea in the supreme court.

On behalf of all the students across the nation who are tensed about the conduct of JEE Main, and NEET exam, these students have sought relief from the apex court in the form of directions to National Testing Agency (NTA), the body responsible for the conduct of both the exams.

As per these students, NTA should postpone the exams until the situation normalises. Moreover, students have also demanded more number of exam centres to ensure proper social distancing norms are maintained among the students as well as logistical and transportation facilities for safe travel to and from the exam centre.

The petition also throws light on how NTA and the Education Minister have ignored the plight of lakhs of students who belong to Bihar, Assam and North Eastern States were flood has caused massive damages. 

It will be very challenging for students from these states to be able to attend the exam in the month of September highlighted the plea.
