The plea filed by six opposition ruled states for the postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020 will be heard today at Supreme Court.

In its judgment on August 17, 2020 Supreme Court had negated the request to postpone the national level JEE Main and NEET 2020 examinations. However, the state governments cited that the SC failed to secure students 'right to life and also disregarded 'teething logistical difficulties' that will be faced by the students while appearing for the national level exams.

The Supreme Court earlier rejected the plea on two base grounds stating that life must go on and the career of the students cannot be put in jeopardy'. On the flip side, the petitioners claim that the judgment does not consider various aspects and complexities involved in the matter and thus the order passed is 'cryptic and non-speaking'.

The petition in SC is filed by the advocate Sunil Fernandes. The review petition will be heard by a bench of three judges namely, BR Gavai, Krishna Murari, and Ashok Bhushan.

Earlier on August 17, 2020 SC rejected the plea of 11 students seeking the postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020 and gave a nod to the Centre to conduct the exams as per schedule.

The reports also suggest that the students had a tough time in reaching the examination centres amid the COVID-19 crisis. West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee disclosed that 75% of the state students couldn't appear for JEE Main held on September 1 and she also blamed the Centre's ego for the same.
