Early yesterday, that is June 2, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal had tweeted asking for final suggestions on conducting the most-awaited Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) Advanced and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2020.
As these exams have become subject to constant postponement, there are several reasons that are probably forcing delays in JEE Main and NEET 2020 amid the pandemic.
As COVID cases rise by leaps and bounds in India, parents’ concerns cloud up. 4000 NRI parents filed a petition to the Supreme Court.
It claimed as students were to board Vande Bharat Mission flights and then be quarantined to ensure safety before they appear for NEET, the process is precarious and gruesome. In response to this, the tweet by the HRD Minister further affirmed a panel has been assigned to report situational analysis on COVID-19 and considerable ground realities.
This is to review safety that can be deliberated on students in case JEE Mains, JEE Advanced and NEET 2020 are conducted.
Of late, educational experts even voiced for cancelling JEE Main and NEET 2020. These relative concerns find a base in ever-escalating COVID-19 cases in India and heightened uncertainty behind finding the right treatment for it.
Also, through petitions filed by parents in India and abroad, the ministry had been compelled to give a second thought on holding entrance exams this year.
Earlier, it was expected that fresh dates for JEE Main will surface once CBSE 2020 results are out. As of now, JEE Main dates are scheduled for July 18-23 while NEET on July 26.
This affirms, in case the assigned committee finds it unsafe for students to appear for exams of this status, both first-year admissions and onset of classes will be pushed further.
As found earlier, IITs find nothing less than JEE Advanced can sieve students for these premier institutes. Postponing JEE Main will subsequently delay JEE Advanced.
In line with this, Sarit K Das, IIT Ropar Director, repeatedly said JEE Main and Advanced can be deferred but not cancelled under any circumstances.
As conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET 2020 will confirm admission for successful candidates into 163,150 MBBS, AH, BDS and BVsc seats.
Besides, JEE Mains 2020 is for 32,874 B.Tech, BE and B.Arch seats in IITs, NITs and Government funded institutes.
