The National Testing Agency successfully held the JEE Main Paper 2 on 1 September. However, due to fears arising from the pandemic, there was a dip in the number of registered candidates who took the examination.

Earlier, the JEE Main 2020 had been postponed twice. Finally, it was decided that the examination would be held from 1 to 6 September in computer-based mode.

According to reports, many candidates appeared satisfied with the safety measures taken at a number of examination centres. In many states, a large number of candidates took the JEE Main paper.

However, in some states, candidates had trouble reaching their examination centres on time, owing to heavy floods and transportation problems. Some candidates had to deal with lockdown in contaminated zones.

40 percent of the candidates who had registered for JEE Main did not turn up on Day 1. In Lucknow, 44 percent of the candidates did not take JEE Main Paper 2. Similarly, in Ludhiana, only 178 out of 388 registered candidates took the examination. In Odisha, 3,600 candidates took the examination on the first day, while in Assam, less than 50 percent of the registered candidates took the JEE Main Paper 2.

In many states, special buses and trains are running to transport JEE Main candidates. The states of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha have announced special transport services for the candidates free of cost.
