JEE MAIN

New Delhi: According to Advocate Anubha Sahai, the Bombay High Court will hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the eligibility criteria of 75% and top 20 percentile in the board exams for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2023 on February 21, 2023.

The Public Interest Litigation stated that the candidates have urged that the eligibility requirements be lowered to 50% and the 20 percentile threshold be removed for this year’s JEE Main entrance exam.

Anubha Srivastava Sahai shared the information on her Twitter: "Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) matters on 75% / top 20 percentile eligibility criteria listed on February 21, 2023, before the Bench of Hon'ble Chief Justice of Mumbai High court in the item no 31”.

In her tweet, she further added that “No interlocutory application (IA) filed till now by anyone. No affidavit filed by the Education Minister of India”.

Sahai also challenged the change in eligibility criteria for the JEE Main 2023 exam. According to her, 75% of minimum marks were not mandatory last year but this sudden change will hit many aspirants.

The PIL further added that“It will hit lakhs of aspirants who can score very good marks in the JEE Mains examination but may not have 75% minimum marks in their board examinations”.

The plea has also sought relaxation in the eligibility criteria for the JEE Main 2023 exam. As per the eligibility criteria, 75% in the 12th board examination is needed. The plea has been challenged by an official notice issued by National Testing Agency on December 15, 2022.

JEE Mains 2023 is being conducted in two sessions i.e., in the months of January and April. While the January session is concluded, registrations are ongoing for the April session. For more details about the entrance examination, visit the official website of NTA at nta.ac.in.
