Bombay High Court has allowed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Mains 2020 on the scheduled dates.

The Bombay High Court has also announced that students living in the flood-affected areas of Maharashtra’s Vidharbha region who are unable to appear for the JEE Main exam can apply for the re-examination to NTA.

Following the pleas from students describing their critical state, the court acknowledged their challenges and had asked the Union government, Maharashtra government, NTA and collectors of the affected districts to consider postponing the exam for students who would not be able to give the exam.

NTA Accepts Undertaking Before Bombay High Court

National Testing Agency has accepted an undertaking before Bombay High Court stating that students who are unable to reach the JEE Main exam centres due to Maharashtra flood or problems with transportation and communication will be allowed to send a representation.

Candidates can now make representation through the local agency to the Apex body of the JEE Main examination.

Following which, the NTA will consider it after making the enquiries from the centre coordinator and the District collector. The decision will be finalised within 15 days.

Further Postponement to Affect Academics: HRD Minister

The HRD Ministry has stated that any further postponement in conducting exams can have severe consequences as it will affect the academics of lakhs of students. Moreover, the postponement of exams may also dilute the quality of education provided

However, the ministry also acknowledges that the flood-like situation in various districts of Maharashtra is a serious problem for which student of such areas will be given the option of re-examination.

Will JEE Advanced be Postponed?

After the recent decision made by the NTA, another question is in light that whether the JEE Advanced 2020 will be further postponed.

As many students who will send representation may be allowed to attempt the JEE Main 2020 exam after 15 days.

Following which the result of JEE Main results may be delayed and eventually JEE Advanced. Similarly, JoSAA and AAT 2020 dates are also expected to get delayed.
