Delhi High Court has refused to take part in making the decision on the plea submitted by a student seeking re-examination for JEE Advanced 2020 for aspirants who could not appear for the exam due to Coronavirus.
An IIT aspirant filed a plea to Delhi High Court insisting on conducting the re-exam for those students who could not appear for the exam. He secured the rank of 96,187 in the JEE Mains 2020 exam held in September, but could not appear for the JEE Advanced 2020 exam as he tested positive for CoronaVirus.
Justice Jayant Nath straight away declined the plea from the aspirant stating, the matter can be handled by experts who are handling such cases generally and they are not the best fit to advise in academic matters.
JEE Advanced 2020 exam was conducted on September 27, 2020, and the aspirant could not appear for the test as he tested positive on September 22, 2020. The results for the same were declared on October 5, 2020.
The aspirant also appealed to the Organising Chairman of IIT-Delhi to support him in this matter.
He requested them to give him relaxation and conduct the re-examination for all the Covid affected students.
He reached out to the examination center in Jaipur seeking for special accommodation and facilities for the affected students, but to no avail.
JEE Advanced Re-Exam Plea
The plea explained the situation for the students that the exams are conducted annually and the candidates cannot appear two times in the consecutive year. Therefore, if he does not appear for the exam, he will have to appear for the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced both next year.
The Joint Admission Board Committee held a meeting to discuss the urgent matter and came to the conclusion that re-exam cannot be organised for the candidates who did not appear for the exam.
However, they can make few relaxations for the next year to compensate for the year lost. The minutes meeting agreed that candidates who registered for the JEE 2020 and were not able to appear for the exam can sit directly for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam.
The above measure will only be applied one time and those candidates will not have to appear for JEE Mains 2021 to proportionate the relaxation of age bar.
Upon this, Delhi High Court informed that the plea was not compelled to take action with the Joint Admission Board meeting on October 13, 2020, and the petition was dismissed.
