After the decision of CBSE to reduce the syllabus for classes 9 to 12 by 33% for the academic year 2021-22, the Indian Institutes of Technology are also considering reducing the JEE Advanced 2021 syllabus. The JEE Advanced is taken for admission to the B.Tech and five-year integrated courses at the 23 IITs.

The question of reducing the syllabus for JEE Advanced will be settled at the meeting of the Joint Admission Board of the IITs on 17 July. JEE Advanced 2020 will be held by IIT Delhi and is scheduled to be given on 27 September.

Earlier, the IITs decided to set up a review board to assess the CBSE reduction in the syllabus.

In addition, deliberations are on with regard to relaxing the class 12 score required for admission to the IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Students need a minimum of 75% in class 12 to be eligible for admission; this figure is 65% for SC and ST students.

Since most boards are not holding any examination and declaring results on the basis of past performance, the JAB may also consider relaxing the criteria for admission this year.
