Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneshwar, on the generation of frontier technologies and the production of quality manpower in the field of agricultural research and education to address the challenges facing rural communities and improve their quality of life.

The MoU has been signed by Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, on behalf of IIT Roorkee and Dr. Pawan Kumar Agrawal, Vice-Chancellor, OUAT.
According to the MOU, the two institutions will work together on research programmes in which IITR and OUAT will work jointly in the field of agriculture in the field of genomics, transgenics and metabolic processes, crop improvement, information and communication, application of the Sensor in agriculture, information and communication, IT-based social development and related aspects of agriculture leading to the development of agriculture. The MOU has been signed for a period of five years.

Low farm incomes, climate change and low productivity are some of the major challenges facing the sector. The partnership will strengthen the government's efforts to build capacity and will be a step forward in achieving the goal of 'AatmaNirbhar' Bharat, "said Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee.
Dr PK Agrawal, Vice-Chancellor, OUAT, said that this collaboration will create new avenues for interdisciplinary research with the participation of OUAT and IITR scientists. As a result of this MOU, several problems for farmers can be resolved.

As per the MoU, a Joint Working Group will be set up with representatives of both institutions to meet once every two years to review the implementation of this MoU and to recommend the necessary measures for its development.
