Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad's technology innovation hub, TEXMiN (Technology Innovation in Exploration and Mining) Foundation, has collaborated with the French 3D experience company, Dassault Systèmes to establish a Centre of Excellence of international standards.
The mining technology centre of excellence will be located at the IIT(ISM) Dhanbad campus, which will provide radical technology support and prepare the workforce of the future, specific to the mining and allied industries.
Dassault Systèmes will act as a technology and solution partner, and will offer experiential learning via its 3D experience platform to assist the industrial and startup ecosystem with complete pit-to-port optimisation from geological modelling and mine engineering to workforce and production scheduling, supply chain optimisation, portfolio optimisation and plant design.
Speaking about the collaboration, an official from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, said that sustainability, traceability, and safety are the paramount for mining organisations in today's era, which can be achieved by acceleration of the digital transformation journey and integration of the entire value chain from the mine to the plant and port.
The collaboration will allow students and working professionals with unique learning opportunities, assisting them for today's fast-paced industry, the official said.
The institute will design the courses and curriculum by combining virtual worlds on the 3D Experience platform, delivering a single source of truth to unseal the capabilities of complete digital transformation and experience the new reality of sustainable mining and metals.
Expressing his delight, Naresh Soni, CEO of TexMin, and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, said that the institute is excited to partner with Dassault Systèmes for establishing a Mining Technology Excellence Centre, giving the IIT (ISM) students, the opportunity to experience on the job learning environment via virtual simulations.
The institute is dedicated to train and assist the new generation of innovators, startups, and professionals with future-ready innovation technologies, Soni said.
Deepak NG, managing director, India, Dassault Systèmes said that the collaboration will be a great milestone for the mining industry in India. Also, the mining companies should get used to the greater economic uncertainty, climate change, and resource depletion.
Further, the mining companies are expected to be more sustainable, efficient, safe, and resilient. Dassault Systèmes takes pride in partnering with mining institutes like IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to bring the future technologies to the students, startups and the ecosystem, Deepak added.
Deepak said that the mining industry plays a critical role in assisting mining communities to develop the skills required to entirely participate in the digital economy of the future.
Deepak concluded saying that Industry partnership and academia like this will assist Indian mining and metal companies in their current reskilling and upskilling programs on Digital Transformation and build the required workforce for the future.
