Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has introduced a new Undergraduate course named B.Tech. in Engineering and Computational Mechanics which will commence from this year.

The Department of Applied Mechanics has launched the programme and said that the students qualifying JEE Advanced will be eligible to enroll in the newly launched course.

Sanjeev Sanghi, HoD stated, “The graduates of this programme are likely to find the best technical jobs in core engineering and will also be very apt candidates for higher studies such as master’s and Ph.D. in IIT-Delhi as well as other leading national and international educational institutions.”

The main objective of this course is to provide students with the required exposure to the latest trends in the area of computational techniques, processes, and experiments. The HoD also highlighted the practical approach the course will offer.

Apart from this, the programme also aims to provide a strong foundation in the fundamentals of engineering mechanics along with the tools to address areas such as biomechanics, nanomechanics, constitutive modeling at Multiple Length and Time Scales, parallel processing for mechanics problems, machine learning, artificial intelligence in Mechanics.

Future Scope of the Programme

Furthermore, he indicated the future scope and opportunities after the completion of the programme. In his words,” Design, analysis and research jobs in sectors such as defense, aerospace, automotive, shipping, bio-mechanics, and bio-medical devices, off-shore structures, etc. will be open to students doing this programme, which has been designed based on consultation with industry.”

Aspirants of JEE Advanced are waiting for entry to the course. This year, the JEE Advanced exam will be conducted online on September 27 and October 8. The MCQs based test will contain 2 mandatory papers (Paper 1 and paper 2) covering Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. Due to the COVID crisis, this year the number of students registered for the exam has decreased.
