Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has noticed a significant rise in pre-placement offers (PPO) for the placement session 2020-2021. About 270 companies have already registered to participate in the virtual recruitment process.
The online annual placements at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay will be conducted from December 01, 2020.
Around 2,000 students across all IIT’s in India have registered for the placement this year, while 186 pre-placement offers (PPO) compared to last year's 113 at the IIT Powai campus; leading to sweeping 65% rise in total PPOs received this year.

Major recruiters are taking the pre-placement offer (PPO) route to recruit graduates and placement officers across the tech institutions in India. But the participation from the international representation of companies from the US and Japan has decreased.
With the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan is compensating for the loss. Last year, 313 Japanese organizations participated in Phase-1 of the placement process comparatively to placement session 2020-2021.
According to a placement officer, “While a handful of American firms are participating in the placements this year, many of the regular participants from Japan and even some new companies that are joining in this year's virtual placement for the first time.”

The prospective recruiters will conduct the Placement Aptitude Tests (IIT-PCAT), for aspiring students, from home. The written test will determine the student's ability in three domains - quantitative aptitudes, logical reasoning/ data interpretation, and verbal aptitude.
IITs and the third party vendor will be supervising the exam under a two-way video proctoring. Students are required to keep their phones, laptop, and video camera functioning during the IIT-PCAT examination.
According to the reports, the domestic market might play a huge role in the placement session 2020-2021. However, IITs are yet in the process of accepting pre-placement offers (PPOs).
RV Raja Kumar, Director at IIT Bhubaneswar said, “PPOs had seen a huge jump which equaled last year's total offer and is sure to surpass.”
He further added PPO has received an offer as high as INR 43 Lakhs per annum CTC. Most of the offers are from core industries and are widespread.

Despite the state of the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the global economy, PPO’s have indicated a healthy trend and a positive placement scenario.
