New Delhi: Global Sustainable Networks and Circular Economy was the topic of a panel discussion held at the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli. The panellists were Vimal Mahendru, vice president of the International Electrotechnical Commission and chair of the Standardization Management Board, and Satyadeep Rajan, founder of the Swiss Learning Exchange.
Professor Ashok A. Prasad, a visiting faculty member at IIM Tiruchirappalli and a scholar and educator in the field of sustainable development, served as the moderator for the panel discussion.
The debate was a component of the Global Economics Case Competition (GECC), an international case study competition organised by ArthaNiti: Economics & Public Policy Club of IIM Tiruchirappalli in collaboration with the Swiss Learning Exchange. The competition's second iteration takes place this year.
Professor Ashok A. Prasad welcomed the panellists and gave them an overview of the discussion's topic before inviting them to give introductory remarks on the complexities of sustainability, the Circular Economy, and their views on the move towards it.
The panel discussion examined the short- and long-term business issues that need to be resolved as the globe shifts to a work culture that places a greater emphasis on sustainability. The discussion centred on innovative strategies for bridging the gap in the global business adoption of a circular economy. Aligning incentives like the cost of capital or the financial performance of enterprises with ESG achievements was suggested. The panel also emphasised the urgent need to promote sustainability through efforts for education and public awareness that focus on circular economies and sustainability.
Following the talk, participants filled out a questionnaire. A film at the end of the session introduced the GECC case. The audience was guided through the case problem document by Professor Ashok. Team ArthaNiti gave a vote of gratitude to end the meeting.
