New Delhi: IIM Shillong, The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis of IIM Shillong has conducted the G20 Side Event on “Climate Finance” on February 4, 2023. The event was held with great success in presence of representatives from various sectors.
As per IIM Shillong, the G20 SFWG Summit was organised with the support of the Department of Economic Affairs and inaugurated by the IIM Shillong fraternity. Representatives from the public and corporate sectors as well academic community were present at the event.
The summit’s main objective was to emphasize the need for increased public and private sector investments in climate action. The key highlights of the event included discussion panels on “bridging the gap between finance and climate action” and encouraging private capital.
Talking about the event, the official statement said, “Speakers are expected to bring in unique perspectives and insights on the intersections of energy, environment and finance, and provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the industry”.
“Participants will have the opportunity to hear from experts on the latest developments in this field as well as engage in discussions on how to overcome challenges and promote action to address climate change”, the statement further added.
At the G20 SFWG Summit, Chandani Raina, Advisor, Department of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance of India addressed the audience and spoke on India’s role in positively impacting the macro-economic effects of climate change.
The summit featured distinguished speakers including Senior Programme Lead, Council on Energy, Environment and Water, Arjun Dutt; Adviser, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, Chandni Raina; Financial Adviser, NEC Shillong and Gaigongdin Panmei.
IIM Shillong Director Professor DP Goyal shared, “The need to mobilise finance for sustainable development and climate action is more critical than ever, and we are thrilled to be hosting this important event”.
“We believe that this event will bring together a diverse group of experts from the public and private sectors, civil society and academia, to exchange ideas and share best practices, and we look forward to a productive and engaging exchange of ideas”.
