IIM Shillong Hosts 14th Convocation

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management, IIM Shillong hosted its 14th annual convocation, conferring MBA degrees to a total of 238 students. 

During the 14th Convocation of IIM Shillong, around 236 students from the PGP-2021-23 batch (a two-year full-time residential course), 43 students from the PGPEX cohort of 2022-2023 (a one-year full-time residential programme), 16 students from the PGPWE2020-22 batch, and 47 students from the PGPWE2021-23 batch received MBA degrees along with five doctoral scholars receiving their PhD degrees. 

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, attended the event in a virtual mode, whereas Gaurav Swarup, co-chairman and managing director of Paharpur Cooling Towers, attended the ceremony as the honourable guest of honour.

Shishir Kumar Bajoria, the chairman of the board of governors, gave a welcome speech in which he congratulated the students and highlighted their accomplishments. In addition, he emphasised the significance of skill development in determining India's future and exhorted the students to invest their learnings from the institute to contribute to society.

In his speech, Rajeev Chandrasekhar hailed the contributions of Digital India to the country's development and spoke of India's quick rise to prominence as a worldwide leader while China and the UK are experiencing recession and other difficulties.

The minister proclaimed India to be the country of the decade and urged the IIM Shillong students to use their education to progress both their local area and the country as a whole. He also offered greetings and congrats to each and every graduate who received their degrees. 

Meanwhile, the convocation ceremony witnessed the participation of 238 students, who received job offers from 63 recruiters across various fields, including Consulting & Strategy, Finance, General Management, Human Resources & Operations, IT & Analytics, and Sales & Marketing. The gender ratio of the class was equally split, with 45 percent females and 55 percent males.
