New Delhi: Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a Bharat Ratna, was born 98 years ago today, and on December 25, 2022, IIM Ranchi observed Good Governance Day. The holiday, observed in memory of the nation's late prime minister, increases public understanding of political accountability.
The event was organised by IIM Ranchi's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre for Leadership, Policy, and Governance (ABVCLPG), a centre of excellence. To conduct interdisciplinary research in leadership, policy, and governance, the ABVCLPG was formed. A pool of managers, administrators, and leaders with strong credentials in governance and policy are what it aspires to produce.
The program's chief guest was Bharat Lal, the director general of the government of India's National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG). The NCGG is an independent agency at the top of the Indian government that works on reforms, creating capacity, and training civil employees in India and other developing nations. Prior to joining NCGG, he served as Secretary for India's Lokpal, the nation's anti-corruption body, beginning in January 2022. Prior to this, he served as the founding mission director of the Government of India's flagship programme, the "Jal Jeevan Mission."
The co-chair of the ABVCLPG, Professor Aditya Shankar Mishra, gave a speech on the significance of the day and the ideals of good governance as exemplified by many thinkers. He went on to provide examples and the principles of good administration that are mentioned in ancient Indian scriptures.
Professor Deepak Kumar Srivastava, the director of IIM Ranchi, then spoke to the audience about the various aspects of good governance, the significance of good governance in management, and the distinction between governance and management.
