New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) conducted its 48th convocation ceremony on Friday, March 31, 2023, at which 673 students graduated from a variety of programmes. At the convocation, 8 students received gold medals for being placed first and second overall along with their academic achievements.
73 individuals from the IIM-B , from courses PG Programme in Enterprise and the Executive PG Programme in Management graduated, compared to 16 from the PhD programme. The PG Course in Business Analytics graduated 39 students, and the PG Programme in Management graduated 472 students.
In the convocation speech, Padma Bhushan laureate Baba Kalyani, chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge Ltd., stated, “India is right now leading the way and has become a significant force to be reckoned with.”
He continued, “Young professionals with training from a top business school, must act as change agents or catalysts and persuade others that it is necessary to think creatively. As individuals, we should cease relying on society or the government to change first or the government itself. Instead, we must become the centres of change.”
IIMB's director, Rishikesha T. Krishnan, gave a speech regarding the institute's golden jubilee festivities. Instead of only celebrating Foundation Day this year, he stated, "We're going to have Foundation Week."
Kaiya Arora, Director of Postal Services (HQ), Karnataka Circle, distributed a unique postal cover on Friday on campus to celebrate IIMB's 50th anniversary. The IIMB collaborated with India Post to develop the cover.
Gold Medalists Shared Their Thoughts
Pankaj Jindal, Executive Postgraduate Programme in Management First-Place Finisher for 2022–2023.
Along with consistently performing well in school, Rajasthani native Pankaj Jindal, 31, also received awards from the program's different business challenges.
His mother is a housewife, his father retired from the government, and his wife works at a global corporation. On his future plans, Mr Jindal stated that he intends to shift from an organisation's primary manufacturing sector to the IT and Data Analytics sector and take on a strategic role in managing an organisation's more significant aims.
Manshul Arora, Postgraduate Programme in Enterprise Management First-Place finisher for 2021–2023
Manshul Arora, 31, comes from a Haryana farming family. He said that his father had moved to the city to give his kids a brighter future. As Mr Arora was placed first on the Director's Merit list, he was awarded a scholarship at IIMB. He spent a semester as an exchange student at IE University in Madrid, Spain.
He expressed his desire to have an effect on the semiconductor business when asked about his future ambitions. He said, “The industry is ready for transition and changes over the course of expanding demand, geopolitical unrest, and the growing significance of sustainability. I wish to contribute to this change process in a meaningful way.”
Mridul Sureka, first-place finisher in the postgraduate management programme for 2021–2023.
Mridul Sureka, a 23-year-old from Kolkata, earned perfect marks of 4.00 in 24 of the 27 courses he took at IIMB, earning an A in every one of them.
He was given six scholarships for his academic success at IIMB, the French Embassy also gave him a scholarship for an exchange programme. He received flawless marks during his international program at HEC Paris in seven out of nine classes.
Even though Mr Mridul Sureka's parents are in the textile industry in Kolkata, he wants to pursue a career in private equity investment. He hopes to have a good influence on the economy. Later in his profession, he said, he wanted to help the nation by influencing economic policies.
Sarthak Jain, first-place finisher in the postgraduate business analytics programme for 2021–2023.
Sarthak Jain, 25, had previously completed his electrical engineering degree at IIT Delhi and served as a quantitative analyst in Mumbai before beginning his MBA programme at IIMB. His mother is a stay-at-home mom, while both his father and grandpa worked for the Rajasthani government.
Delivering a live consultancy project for the IISc Department of aeronautical engineering was one of Mr Jain's takeaways from the course.
He said, "I plan on pursuing my business career as a consultant for the early few years in order to gain professional experience, comprehend the variety of real-world difficulties that organisations encounter, and how strategic decisions may assist address these problems, he replied when asked about his ambitions.”
“I am confident that these encounters will advance me closer to achieving my larger life objective, which is to form a venture capital company that specialises in offering strategic advice and, in turn, aids in the development of start-ups seeking to have a significant social effect,” He continued.
