Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Allahabad has decided to offer an eight-year undergraduate and postgraduate integrated programme.
The new integrated programme is flexible in nature and it has been designed by the IIIT Allahabad, according to the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The course will offer multiple entry and exit options to students. Upon successful completion of the first-year, students will be awarded a certificate.
Similarly, the students will receive a skill certificate on completion of the second year, diploma certificate in the third year, bachelor's degree in the fourth year, PG diploma certificate in the fifth year, and a PG degree in the sixth year. At the end, the students will get a PhD degree in the eighth year.
IIIT Allahabad has planned to intake students for the eight-year UG-PG integrated programme for the academic year 2022-23 through JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
NEP 2020 suggests a 5+3+3 model of school education. In line with it, class XI students will also be eligible to take admission to the course. Currently, the passing students of class XII are eligible to take admissions in the IIITs.
The institute has finalized a comprehensive syllabus and will be submitting it to the Ministry of Education for implementation. Post the permission, the institute will commence the admission for the academic session 2022-23.
Once a candidate takes admission into the UG-PG integrated programme offered at the institute, they will receive a degree from certificate to research in eight years. They will also get the facility to study every semester from different institutions at their convenience.
In order to facilitate the movement of the students, the institute is also looking to collaborate with different institutions.
Meanwhile, IIIT Allahabad Senate has constituted a committee to prepare formalities relating to the conduct of this integrated course. Further, the institute has scheduled to organise a national semester in December 2021 to familiarize the course.
The senior authorities of the AICTE, AIU and NITI Aayog, and Union Ministry of Education will take part along with academics from IITs, IIITs, NITs and other universities will also participate in the National Semester.
