Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank held a review meeting with Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy to discuss the country's current educational scenario.

Schools, colleges and other educational institutions across the country were closed in mid-March because of coronavirus followed by nationwide lockdown to contain the spread.

For this reason, all State Boards like CBSE, ICSE have suspended the Board exams. CBSE Board Exam 2020 will be held for CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th from July 1, 2020 after a delay of more than three months.

As of July 2, 2020,  CISCE will also conduct ICSE (Class 10) Board Exams 2020 and ISC (Class 12) Board Exams 2020.

However, the decision to conduct the exam was strongly condemned by parents when the number of cases of coronavirus in the country is increasing.

This lockdown not only did affect the Board exams but also the academic session as a whole.

"Had a review meeting with Smt. Anita Karwal, Department Secretary for School Education and Literacy at @HRDMinistry, Manoj Ahuja, Chairman at @cbseindia29 (CBSE), and Vineet Joshi, Chairman at @DG NTA (National Testing Agency) to address the current educational scenario," Union HRD Minister Nishank tweeted.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also said that schools, colleges, educational / training/coaching institutions will be opened during Phase II of Unlock 1 after consultation with the States and UTs.

MHA said the decision on the reopening of those institutions will be taken in July 2020 based on feedback from States and UTs.

'In Phase II, schools, colleges, educational / training/coaching facilities, etc., will be opened after consultations with States and UTs. State / UT Governments are advised to conduct institution-level consultations with parents and other stakeholders.

A decision on the reopening of these facilities will be taken in July based on the feedback.

The Union HRD minister had said earlier that the schools would be opened once the Board exams have been completed. He also declared the declaration of both CBSE 10th Result 2020 and CBSE 12th Result 2020 by 15 August, 2020. That includes the results of preceding exams and the July test results.
