Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GB Pant University), has signed an MoU with the Agricultural sciences company, FMC India to foster talent in agriculture.
The collaboration has been done between GP Pant University and FMC to commence its multi-year scholarship program for significant agricultural schools across eight states in the county.
A total of four scholarships will be annually awarded by FMC to the students pursuing masters degree and doctorate studies in agricultural sciences at GB Pant University, as a part of the MoU.
The FMC will closely work with the University to recognize the brightest students and promote their passion for science and research.
The multi-year scholarship program of FMC has guaranteed to financially assist 10 PhD (Ag) and 10 M.Sc. (Ag) scholarships in eight universities, in faculties such as, Entomology, Pathology, Agronomy, Soil Science and Horticulture across India.
Students conferred with the award will also be provided industry guidance and internships for their overall development that will also enhance their employment opportunities in the company.
Nearly 50% of the scholarships have been allocated for female candidates to promote women candidates in the country to pursue careers in agricultural sciences and research. Moreover, FMC will upgrade its collaborative research work with the University.
Ravi Annavarapu, president, FMC India, said that the talent strategy of FMC is to expand its strong core of local scientists, complemented by a range of international scientists.
The collaboration with the university will unlock the potential of students who will aspire to carve their niche to success with the guidance of industry professionals and experts, Ravi said.
Further, the research and development scenario is emerging at a significant rate and is also gaining global recognition. With the help of the FMC Science Leaders Scholarship Program, it is believed to allow students to be at the forefront of this remarkable growth, working in a world-class organisation, surrounded by the best minds, he added.
According to the company, it is committed to strengthening the partnership among the scientific community and academia within the agriculture ecosystem.
Speaking about the collaboration, Dr Tej Pratap, Vice-Chancellor, GB Pant University, said that the collaboration is of excellent importance to the university. Collaborating to achieve excellence in research must be a norm to label the issues of similar interest that have far-reaching implications for the industry as a whole.
Further, there's an urgent requirement to develop new technologies in the agriculture field through research and with the help of the FMC India initiative, the stakeholders in the Indian agricultural industry would be inspired to a greater extent to follow the same, Pratap said.
