Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE 2022 applicants can now appear for two new papers in the coming year as per the decision taken at the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE meeting. 

Two new papers in GATE 2022

During the meeting held on Saturday, May 22, 2021, GATE 2021 Organizing Chairman, Prof. Deepankar Choudhury stated that two new papers- Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and Geomatics Engineering will be added in GATE 2022. With the addition of two new papers, GATE 2022 will now have a total of 29 subjects for students to choose from. 

IIT Bombay, which coordinates exam activities of GATE has handed over their official duties to IIT Kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur will be responsible for conducting this postgraduate engineering entrance exam in the year 2022. 

Additionally at the meeting, GATE 2021 exam organizing authorities such as IITs and IISc Bengaluru have spoken about plans to increase exam centres. Referring to the increase of exam centres, Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, "There is a plan to increase exam centres keeping in mind the aspirants from smaller towns during a pandemic, as it found to be very successful last year"

IIT Kharagpur is expected to release the GATE 2022 Exam Centres list along with an exam brochure for all applicants to check. With the increase of exam centres, applicants will now be able to select four exam centres for GATE 2022 as per their preferences.

In the last year, IIT Bombay has also added two new papers- Humanities and Environmental Science. As per IIT Bombay, a total of 14,196 students have already enrolled for the newly introduced humanities paper. 

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE is a multiple-choice question or MCQ-based examination, which is computer-based. The examination has a total of two sections which includes 65 questions. Students are given a time span of three hours to complete the questions. 

The questions asked in the GATE examination are based on the following category: General Aptitude (15 marks), Engineering Mathematics (10-13 marks), and Core Engineering Domain.
