GATE 2022 postponement plea in SC

Many students have petitioned the Supreme Court to postpone GATE 2022. CJI N. V. Ramana consented to an urgent listing of this matter yesterday, February 2, 2022, since there are just two days till the examinations begin. Advocate Pallav Mongia filed the petition on behalf of the students.

According to the petition filed by the petitioners, over nine lakh students are expected to appear for the GATE 2022 exam at around 200 GATE exam centres throughout the country.

Further, the IIT Kharagpur has not released any Covid-19 guidelines or published any exam-day instructions or procedures to assess the students' health conditions who are going to appear for the GATE exam on the aforementioned dates.

However, the institute has released a travel pass for all GATE 2022 or Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2022 aspirants who are all set to appear for the exams.

GATE 2022 Might be Postponed Amid COVID-19 Crisis, Hints IIT Kharagpur

The travel pass will assist the GATE 2022 and JAM 2022 aspirants to reach the exam centre on exam day easily in spite of the Covid-19 restrictions in different states.

Recently, on January 15, the exam conducting authority released the GATE 2022 admit card on the official website i.e. gate.iitkgp.ac.in.

Last month, a total of 23,000 GATE aspirants joined a petition protesting the exam conducting authority to postpone the GATE 2022 exam with regards to the current Covid-19 situation in the country.

According to the aspirants' petition, In view of the current third wave of Covid-19 and the spread of the new variant of Covid-19, Omicron in several cities, many studies including one by IIT Kanpur predicted that there will be a peak of the 3rd wave of Covid-19 in early February, which will most likely be ended in April 2022. Thus, the peak is expected to coincide with the usual GATE 2022 exam dates

The petitioners also mentioned that many states in the country have already postponed some of their exams scheduled in January and February 2022, in light of the third wave of Covid-19 surfacing throughout the country.
