PTE New Score Update: PTE to IELTS Score Comparison

Every conducting body of the English proficiency tests like ETS for TOEFL, British Council, IDP and Cambridge for IELTS, Pearson Group for PTE releases their review of scores through concordance reports after rigorous research being carried on.

After the Pearson Group released the PTE score update which includes the PTE score guide 2020, a few of the test-takers were in a dilemma about the score calculation and how it affected their test-taking. But Pearson in a later announcement stated how the PTE score chart 2020 is created only against the IELTS score chart. They further stated how this PTE score update is only to cater to the updated score requirements of universities, schools, colleges, and educational institutes.

How are PTE Bands Calculated?

The PTE scores are marked against the Global Scale of English and the PTE score range is 10 to 90. The PTE score report includes the overall score, score in communicative skills and score in enabling skill. The IELTS score band range is 1 to 9. The overall band score is the average of the scores of each of the 4 sections of the test. Most renowned institutions accept a band score of 7 or higher.

Which is More Scoring PTE or IELTS?

Both are equally famous English proficiency tests, and if the institute accepts both PTE and IELTS, candidates can appear in the mock tests of both the tests or go through sample question papers to understand which would be better to appear in. Suppose a candidate believes that their writing skills are better than their speaking skills, then they can take up the exam with the easier section on writing.

It is generally said that some of the sections of the PTE exam are easier to score than the IELTS exam. However, both of the exams can be scoring if one prepares well.

How Can I Convert my IELTS Score to PTE?
