University Grant Commission or the UGC is the authority that governs college education. It provides grants and monetary assistance to colleges that are recognized and affiliated to it. It oversees the syllabuses being taught in colleges and tries to improve overall college education. Colleges which offer degrees in subjects such as Physics, History, English, Accountancy etc. are affiliated to it. Colleges that offer MBA programs are recognized by the UGC.
If you intend to get an MBA done, then you should aim for a college that has UGC or AICTE affiliation. If the degree that has been conferred on you is not affiliated to any state governing body, then that degree will be of little use. Even distance learning centers get their degrees recognized by the UGC.
Surveys have been conducted among various UGC recognized universities and institutes that offer distance MBA programs and a comprehensive list has been drawn up. The list has been prepared keeping in mind the course and syllabus, the easy of completion of course (whether students will get assistance when they are trying to enroll in the course, classes for specific subjects, assignments and project work) and the examination being conducted by the distance MBA learning institute (the transparency in the examination process, the pass percentage for students etc.).
