DU SOL Plans to Offer UG, PG Online Degrees Including MBA, BA Economics, BSc Maths

DU SOL has also proposed one-year diploma courses in mass communication and journalism in English and Hindi, and in cultivation of edible mushrooms.

A one-year postgraduate diploma in automated and digital library management has also been recommended by the school.

Further, the school has put forward its view to introduce translation courses in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi through online mode. These proposals will be suggested for discussion in the upcoming DU Academic Council meeting on March 22.

The ministry of education has been rigorously pushing the online degree route to improve and enhance the gross enrolment ratio in higher education which currently stands at 27.1 percent in the latest All India Survey on Higher Education, AISHE.

The National Education Policy, NEP 2020 has set a target of achieving a GER ratio of at least 50 percent by the year 2035. The GET is the ratio of enrolled students over the total number of youngsters of college-going age in population.

Delhi University’s Online Courses

The diploma course in mass communication and journalism will be offered in both Hindi and English, and is likely to have 60 credits for the entire course with 30 credits per semester.

According to the proposal, the diploma course will touch upon areas including news reporting, event management, film direction and production, public relations, corporate communications and advertising.

The diploma course in cultivation of edible mushrooms is expected to have a total of 16 credits, whereas there'll be 32 credits in the postgraduate diploma in automated and digital library management course.

With the advent of technology and IT products and services in the Indian library, the library schools are slow in reformatting their curriculum in the light of the changes taking place.

The proposal statement for automated and digital library management revealed that fresh graduates in library and information sciences are baffled when they are in libraries using computers and other IT products and services.
