New Delhi: Delhi University has challenged the admission process of St Stephen’s College in Delhi University (DU) and Ambedkar University Delhi’s (AUD) College of Art (CoA) for different reasons in the Delhi High Court. The matters will now be heard this week, on July 15, 2022.

DU Challenges St Stephen’s, AUD College of Art Admission Process in High Court, Hearing on July 15

Delhi University has challenged St Stephen’s College for conducting an interview round to shortlist candidates for admission to its various undergraduate courses. This step was taken despite the university’s criteria to offer admissions only on the basis of CUET 2022 scores.

The issue started when the college released its prospectus which stated that 15% weightage will be given to the interview round and the rest to CUET for St Stephen’s College UG Admissions 2022. Due to this, the varsity has filed a complaint against the college in High Court.

DU has asked the college to remove its prospectus for academic session 2022-23 and follow the guidelines released for all DU-affiliated colleges. The varsity further declared that if the college failed to comply with university guidelines, then its admission would be considered null and void.

DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said, “Our stand on the matter is very clear. They cannot conduct admissions according to their whims. There is no scope for any misunderstanding among students. Once there is clarity on the matter from the HC, only then the next step will be taken".

The university has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea challenging the college’s admission criteria. The next hearing will now be heard in Delhi High Court on July 15, 2022. The notice regarding the same has been issued to DU colleges and University Grants Commission (UGC).

Delhi University Denies Disaffiliation of College of Art

Delhi University affiliated college - College of Art, till last year, the college was facilitated under DU but from this year, the college is expected to start its admission process under AUD for the session 2022-23.

However, Delhi University has not given its approval for the College of Art's disaffiliation from the university. Due to this, the COA Admission process was halted last year and for this year's admissions, the issue regarding the affiliation was heard in the High Court on July 13, 2022.

Informing about the issues, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said, "We are confident that the matter will be settled in our favor since the Lieutenant Governor’s grant of approval for CoA’s affiliation with AUD was conditional on its de-affiliation from DU".

"When the latter has not happened, how can it come under AUD? I would urge the students not to register and fill out forms right now. They should wait till DU releases its own forms. Whether it is Stephen’s or CoA, we will fight this out till the end and go to the Supreme Court also if necessary" he added.
