Puducherry Chief Minister, V. Narayanasamy stated that the cabinet passed the bill on January 2, 2021, to convert Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Government Law College into National University.

The chief minister launched the pilot program “Litigation Free Village” through an alternative dispute resolution mechanism at the Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry

At the Pilot program launch event, the Chief Minister stated that priority was given to up-gradation of the college and the cabinet has passed the bill to convert the law college into a National University. 

Narayanasami also informed, government has decided to provide a stipend of INR 9,000 to the Law Department interns of the institution.

He appreciated the Union Territory of Puducherry and Legal Services Authority and Ambedkar law college for initiating the pilot project at Kalapet. The chief minister also mentioned that to reduce the pending cases, resolving the cases through mediation is the right choice. 

The Legal Service Clinic cum Conciliation Centre at the Ambedkar Government Law college was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

According to the plan, a professor and a student will investigate the public about the existing disputes by visiting Kalapet once in a month. To solve the issue through alternate dispute resolution system, the public will also be informed about the date of sitting at the college

Justices R. Subramanian and R. Suresh Kumar of the Madras High Court (HC), Retired Justice K. Kannan, Minister for Revenue M.O.H F Shahjahan, Member Secretary/District Judge UT of Puducherry legal service authority, V. Sofana Devi and Principal of Ambedkar Law College S. Srinivasan were present in the launching ceremony.
