New Delhi: The Central University of Karnataka has announced that they have decided to start two new Skill-development programmes. These newly launched single-semester programmes are; Digital IT Desk Assistant & Heritage Tour Guide.
CUK Karnataka has taken this initiative to start News Skill-development programmes as the central component of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0 which is being implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Battu Satyanarayana, Vice-Chancellor, the Central University of Karnataka, said that, "Employability is a major problem these days. On one hand, the country is facing a big unemployment problem & on the other industries are unable to get manpower with the skills they require. It is because of the fact that a large number of graduates coming out every year with certificates do not have the required skills."
To tackle this situation, the Union Government has selected a few Skill Hubs to provide skill development and competency-based vocational training for drop-outs youths across the country and the university is one among them, he said.
As per details provided by the university, the Digital IT Helpdesk Assistant course will provide necessary skills to learners to help them to efficiently handle all day-to-day business communications between clients & companies with the use of computers. While on the other hand, the Heritage Tour Guide programme is designed in such a manner that it enables learners to gain skills required to guide tourists visiting heritage places.
Prof. Satyanarayana said, "Both these programmes will include both theory & practical components of learning with an extra focus on the latter."
“Out of the total learning period, which ranges from 330 to 400 hours, about one-third of the hours will be given to practical training. The Classes will be held on Saturdays and Sundays initially, but if required later, they will also be held on weekdays. The progress made by learners will be monitored regularly by a committee of experts and they will be evaluated after the completion of the programme. Later, they will be awarded with certificates to be issued by the National Skill Development Corporation,” Prof. Satyanarayana added.
When asked whether the university has any sort of plans to ensure placements for learners after they complete these Skill-development courses, Prof. Satyanarayana said that the university will put a necessary mechanism in place to ensure maximum placements for learners.
