New Delhi: National Testing Agency (NTA) Director, Vineet Joshi announced that the scores of CUET UG 2022 held from July 15, 2022, will be based on a normalisation process to ensure that students appearing for exam before their peers are not at any disadvantage.

CUET UG 2022 Scores to be Based on Normalisation Process to Ensure Level Field, says NTA Chief

Scheduled to be held from July 15 to August 20, 2022, CUET UG 2022 has been designed to ensure that candidates participating in the test before their peers in the staggered format will not be placed at any disadvantage as the scores will be based on a normalisation process.

The NTA uses the normalisation process in the case of engineering entrance tests which ensures equity considering multiple factors that could lead to one set of students performing better for reasons apart from academic competence.

Giving an example, Joshi said that the difficulty level of a question paper on the same subject may differ from one session to another. However, the normalisation process offers a level playing field.

Taking a situation in consideration where 20,000 students are participating in the Economics paper on July 15, while another group takes the same paper on August 8. In this situation, one would assume that students sitting for economics papers are at a disadvantage as the August 8 group will be better prepared.

However, the relative performance of candidates from the same group will be considered while awarding the percentile scores, Director Vineet Joshi further added.

Assuring that normalisation will ensure a level field, Joshi said that the questions of several papers scheduled on a single day has left students who have selected multiple subjects with limited transition time.

Further, when the exam was announced, the authorities had made all the announcements. Selecting subjects in a particular slot is a choice that the students have exercised; there's no change to that, he added.

CUET 2022: Students Appearing for Multiple Subjects Allotted with Same Exam Center

Joshi revealed that the agency has ensured that candidates appearing in multiple subjects on the same day get the same centre. No students participating in more than one subject will have to travel to different cities or centres in the same city on the same day.

There might be some cases of a student being allotted different centres in the same city when the papers are spread over multiple days. However, as many as 98% of students have got CUET UG 2022 Exam Centre of their first preference.

The authorities are trying their best to accommodate the rest and address genuine concerns of the candidates. As per Joshi, the NTA has also received requests from candidates to prepare date sheets in a way where they complete the entrance test as quickly as possible.

On complaints of delay in the release of CUET-UG 2022 admit cards, he said, “everyone was aware that exams will start from July 2022. It was given that some students would have to appear in the initial few dates while some would be assigned slots in phase II”.

He concluded by saying that NTA has tried to create an impartial and fair system based on all inputs and requests of the students. Based on the experience and learnings, improvements will be brought by the authorities. As of now, all concerns are being addressed.

Being India's largest common entrance exam for admissions to the UG courses, the CUET UG 2022 is scheduled to be held on July 15, 16, 19 and 20 in the first phase, while the second phase will be conducted on August 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 20.

Informing about CUET UG 2022 Registration, he said that more than 14.9 lakh candidates have registered for the CUET-UG 2022 throughout the country. The data reveals that the registered candidates have picked a total of 54,555 “unique combinations” of subjects.

Candidates's CUET UG scores will be used by colleges under 90 universities, including 44 Central, 19 private, 11 deemed and 12 state institutions. Joshi said that the entrance exam has been structured in a way that it does not “favour or disfavour anyone”.

As for PG admissions, the NTA has decided to conduct the first edition of CUET PG 2022 for the academic session 2022-23 in the fourth week of July 2022. The admit card for the same is expected to be released at least a week before the exam date.
