New Delhi: Union Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that students who could not appear for CUET UG 2022 Day 1 Exam held on July 15, 2022, due to reaching the exam center later or for any other reason will not be given the option to appear for a retest.

CUET UG 2022: No Retest For Students Who Missed Exam, says UGC

As per UGC, students who attributed their delay to NTA's decision to change exam centers, including Delhi a day before the CUET UG 2022 will not be eligible to appear for the retest. This statement was made after many students appeared late for the first session.

Informing about the decision, UGC Chairperson Prof M Jagadesh Kumar said, “In some cases, a few students reached the centers after 9.30 pm, after the commencement of the first session in the morning slot".

"It is a common practice and it has already been conveyed to students that if they come 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination, they are not permitted to enter the center" he further added.

Earlier, the NTA changed various CUET UG 2022 Centers on July 14, 2022, including the Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) in Dwarka to Delhi University's north campus. Change in the exam center was informed through text messages, emails, and automated phone calls.

Regarding changes in the exam center, NTA Director General, Vineet Joshi said, "We keep testing the system. We do mock tests at a center before every exam. If there is the slightest problem, we have to change the exam center. There is no other way".

Joshi stated that bus arrangements were present at the old exam center for those students who reached the original center. The transportation facility was offered to students to ensure that they won’t miss their exam due to any miscommunication regarding the changes in exam center.

He said, “We had arranged buses at all the old centers to transport the students to the new centers, in case they missed the memo. For instance, the last bus from NSUT left at 8.30 am, which is the cut-off time to bar entry into the exam center".

Talking about UGC’s statement release, he said, students may have reached the CUET UG 2022 exam center late due to other reasons. However, if they appear late even after a 30-minute grace period, there is no way a retest will be held for them.

"If you reached your center after 8.30 am, you wouldn’t have been able to take the exam there anyway. If you reached on time, then you would have been safely transported in our buses to the new center. They were all ferried to the new center and were allowed to begin the exam much after 9 am” he added.
