New Delhi: With over 9.14 lakh registrations, the Common University Entrance Exam, CUET has officially become the second biggest entrance examination in India. Registrations have been received from 87 universities that have joined the CUET for UG Admission 2022.

As per the data, the CUET 2022 has recorded over 44.2% participation from female students, while 47% of registrations have been done by students from unreserved categories. The first edition of the test has been placed as the second biggest entrance exam after NEET-UG. 

NTA has concluded the CUET Registration 2022 process on May 22, 2022, in which the highest number of registrations has been received from Uttar Pradesh. Delhi has been placed in second place with 133K registrations, followed by Bihar with 70K and Haryana with 59K registrations. 

Talking about the biggest entrance exam in India, the NEET UG exam records over 16 Lakh registrations every year. The exam is held for students who wish to apply for the medical program admission process in various government/private universities or colleges in the country. 

Till now, JEE Main stood in the second position with over 86 lakh registrations. However, for session 2022, CUET has surpassed JEE Main with the second-highest registration record of 9,13,540 from 87 universities on board.

CUET 2022: State Wise Registration

State-wise, CUET has received registrations in big numbers from states with smaller populations. Arunachal Pradesh which has around 15.5 Lakh population in total has received over 15,122 registrations for the entrance examination. 

Similarly, Meghalaya with a population of 33 Lakh recorded a total of 15,601 applications for CUET 2022. Check the complete overall registrations data for the top states of India mentioned in the table below:

CUET 2022: Top University Registrations

Talking about top Indian Universities, the Central University of Haryana received 92,588 applications, Mahatma Gandhi Central University is placed in the second position with 81, 086 registrations and Central University of Karnataka received 80,402 applications for CUET 2022.

Additionally, Visva Bharati University records over 79,179 applications, North Eastern Hill University received 68,998 registrations, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University with 65,464 registrations, and the University of Hyderabad received about 56,231 applications.

Talking about the data, M Jagadesh Kumar, chairman, University Grants Commission said, “It is a good indication that even students from remote areas are seeing this as an opportunity, which is a positive development".

"They don't have to depend anymore on Board exam marks and since CUET Syllabus is of Class 12th standard aspirants will be at home while appearing for the test. I See CUET becoming more popular in the coming years as more universities come on board" he added.
