The Maharashtra government has decided not to hold the final year or semester examination of professional and non-professional courses due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, degrees will be awarded to students on the basis of the formula devised by the universities.

Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, wrote a letter to the Prime Minister requesting him to direct national-level authorities like the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Council of Architecture (CoA), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Bar Council of India (BCI), and so on to follow the decision of the state government and issue guidelines to universities.

The decision to cancel all examinations came after a University Grants Commission (UGC) panel recommended that all examinations be cancelled, since the situation was unsafe to hold examinations.

The remaining papers for class 10 and class 12 CBSE examinations, which were due to be given between 1 to 15 July, have been cancelled.
