New Delhi: Karnataka Government has announced that the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) admission test would be merged with the Karnataka CET from the upcoming session of 2023-23.
With this, the COMED-K and Karnataka CET will be held at once at all India level for registered candidates. The eligibility for admission will be based on the overall ranking of students secured in the Common Entrance Exam and seat sharing will remain as it is now.
According to Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan, the authorities are now working out the modularities on how COMEDK and CET exams will be combined. The decision to hold the entrance exams as one was during a meeting of the Education Minister and KUPECA.
As of now, the COMEDK UGET is conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka for shortlisting candidates for admission to various engineering courses in Karnataka institutes.
On the other hand, the KCET or Karnataka Common Entrance Test is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority for admission to various UG courses in Engineering, Architecture, Yoga, and Naturopathy streams.
Following the decision made by Education Minister, the exam authority will conduct a common entrance exam for students who are seeking admission to various engineering colleges in Karnataka from session 2023-24.
Karnataka Engineering Admission 2022: Fee Hike Restricted to 10%
In addition to this, the Education Minister has also announced limiting the hike in fees for engineering courses in private colleges. The fee hike will limit to 10 percent for engineering course admission for the current session 2022-23.
During the meeting chaired by the Education Minister of Karnataka and Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA), the organization demanded a fee hike of 25%, which was later capped at 10% after the decision.
Informing about the decision, the Education Minister said, "KUPECA had demanded a 25 percent hike in fees as there had been no increase for the last two years, from 2020-21. But, on consultation, they finally agreed to a 10 percent hike".
Adding to the statement, KUPECA representatives stated that the fee hike is applicable for those candidates who are offered admission seats in private engineering colleges in Karnataka state.
The organization aims to offer support to the Karnataka government to take action against those who collect additional charges by any other means for admission, the officials further added.
