College of Arts Begins Admission Under AUD, DU Teachers Seek VC’s Intervention

Around eleven DU teachers along with EC members Seema Das and Rajpal Singh Panwar, and AC members C M Negi, Kapila Mallah, Alok Pandey, and Sudhanshu Kumar wrote a letter stating said that such an “unfortunate action” of AUD is in contravention of the acts and status of the Delhi University.

In the letter, they stated, “This is to bring to your urgent attention that the Principal of College of Arts, has formally started the admission process in BFA & MFA (Bachelors and masters in fine arts) courses for the academic session 2022-23, as a part of Ambedkar University. This development is consequent upon a meeting to this effect held on 9.5.2022.

“Such an unfortunate action is in contravention of the Acts and Statutes of Delhi University and also violates the decision of the Executive Council which has duly rejected the de affiliation of College of Arts from Delhi University” the letter further stated.

The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) recently reported that students attempting to take admission in the College of Arts via the DU's National Testing Agency (NTA) site were unable to do so since it was not listed among the colleges.

Earlier in March 2021, the Delhi government announced that the CoA will be affiliated with AUD, and so admissions for the 2021-22 academic session were not held. Several students and teachers in the past opposed the proposal, with some even protesting outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence.

However, in April this year, the university chose not to merge the College of Arts with the Ambedkar University after students urged the cessation of the merger with the Delhi government-run Ambedkar University.
