New Delhi: Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) will begin enrolling candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Radiotherapy Technology (BSc) paramedical programme in the current academic year after receiving authorization from the Tamil Nadu government.
On September 17, the state government issued a government order (GO) authorizing the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to begin the course with ten students.
As reported by TNIE, Dean of Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) Dr A Nirmala stated, "The DME had previously requested the State government's approval to start the course at the CMC, and after a thorough review of the proposal, the government gave its approval to start the course at the CMC."
"Enrollment for the course will soon commence, and classes for the next cohort of students will begin this academic year." The programme will be four years long, including one year of internship.
As with MBBS students, the students must complete a year-long Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) programme to gain hands-on experience operating medical equipment," she added.
When the trained graduates enter the workforce, the hospital's staffing shortfall in operating the Linear Accelerator (LINAC), Radiotherapy, and Cobalt equipment will be alleviated.
