National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore would not be accepting CLAT scores for admissions to the academic year 2020-21. It will instead be conducting the National law Aptitude Test or NLAT 2020, its own online entrance test for admissions to law programs.

NLAT 2020 will be held on September 12, 2020. Candidates who have submitted a valid application to NLSIU can appear for the entrance.

Any student seeking admission to NLSIU is required to apply directly to the university and complete the NLAT 2020 Entrance Exam. 

NLAT 2020 Syllabus

NLAT 2020 will test candidates on subjects that correspond to the subjects proposed to be tested in the Common Law Admission Test or CLAT 2020

NLAT 2020 syllabus would comprise of five subjects- English Language, Current Affairs Including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

NLAT 2020 UG will include four General Comprehension (“GC”) passages each accompanied with 10 questions. Students will be required to answer the questions based on the information given in the passages.

Each question that accompanies a GC passage will have two questions each from the five subjects. 

Each General Comprehension (“GC”) passage will be of similar length with ~500 words. The order of difficulty would be similar to the Mock CLAT 2020 UG papers.

NLAT Question Paper Format

  • Language: English
  • Maximum marks: 80 marks
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Marking Scheme: 2 marks per correct answer
    • -0.25 marks per unanswered question
    • -0.50 marks per wrong answer
  • Number of attempts at each question: 1
  • Candidates won’t be able to revisit a question once they have moved to the other
  • Candidates are prohibited from taking assistance of any resources, electronic, print or other form

NLAT 2020 Merit List

After the conclusion of the exam and validation of the Final Answer Key, a General merit list would be prepared based on marks in NLAT 2020 UG.

In case of equal marks, the Tie-break Rule would be followed. The tie-break would be made based on: 

  • The higher number of correct answers to Legal Reasoning Questions
  • Higher number of correct answers (overall)
  • Computerized draw of lots

All candidates would be informed about their Merit rank and aggregate marks through an email/SMS. Aggregate marks of the last admitted candidate in their category will also be informed.

NLSIU will not publish any consolidated merit list or admission list. 

Additional Details

NLAT 2020 UG would be attempted by candidates using their computer devices at respective locations as per the detailed specifications provided by NLSIU. 

  • Candidates will be required to provide video and audio inputs throughout the exam duration
  •  Candidates will have to ensure that they appear for the examination on appropriate time.
  • NLSIU will not be responsible for any connectivity issues or failure of the internet during the exam.
  • In case of any misconduct or examination malpractice, NLSIU reserves the right to cancel the candidate’s examination.
