The CBSE is in the news again. Many students and parents are demanding that the compartment examinations, due to be held in September, be cancelled due to the pandemic.

Many class 12 students are also bothered about the online window for applying to get a photocopy of their board examination answer sheets being closed early.

According to the detailed schedule that CBSE had released on 14 July, class 12 students could apply for verification of marks from 17 to 21 July. Following this, they could apply for a photocopy of answer sheets on 1 and 2 August. The latter irked many students. One student said that 1 August was Eid (a holiday) and the next day was Sunday. Consequently, many students missed out as cyber-cafes were closed.

On Twitter, many students appealed to CBSE and Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to reopen the application window. One Twitter user claimed that some students had not received their details about verification of marks even by 1 August. The user questioned how such students can take the next step if their first step is not complete.

Another user complained that even though it was 2 August, he was unable to apply, as the site said that the last date was over. However, CBSE had mentioned that the link would close by 5 pm on 2 August; it was unclear if the user had tried to apply after the stipulated hour.

Hashtags such as #CBSEkillingstudents and #CBSEcancelExamsSaveStudents were also widespread on social media, as a mark of protest against CBSE proposing to hold compartment examinations in September for students who had failed the board examinations.

In an official note, CBSE said that cancelling the examination would adversely affect many students.
