CBSE Class 12th Exam 2021: Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal had recently announced CBSE Classes 10 and 12 exam dates for 2021 according to which exams will commence from May 4 while results will be out by July 15.

The sector of higher education in India is attempting to cope with COVID-19 pandemic and accordingly, dates of CBSE Class 12th Exam 2021, have been issued. However, students planning to study abroad at UG level may be severely affected as several important countries close admissions quite early.

Experts are of the view that CBSE's two months delay may retaliate with a cascading effect on study abroad plans as well UG academic calendar 2021 in the nation.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), helmed by the Union Education Ministry, has taken this decision to compensate academic losses as schools were shut since March 2020. Moreover, there has been a growing demand for postponement among school administration and students alike.

As per the revised dates, CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams will continue from May 4-June 10 while results will be declared by July 15, 2021. Meanwhile, practicals will begin from mid of March.

This revision is likely to impact the academic calendar of 2021 as universities, IITs and other higher education institutions might have to improvise their admission and academic schedule accordingly. For instance, IITs announced the JEE Advanced 2019 results on June 14 for admission to B.Tech courses in 2019-20 session.

The results were declared after JEE Main results declared in April followed by qualification for JEE Advanced. Similarly, Delhi University also issued the first cut off for UG admission 2019-20 on June 26 after completing all the initial levels of registration processes. However, this year, CBSE will be declaring 12th results around mid-July.

With exams getting deferred by 2 months, admissions may not be over by mid-August, while commencement of classes may be pushed to the end of September, believes the registrar of Marwadi University, Gujarat,

He further added, “CBSE board delay will have a direct bearing on state school board decisions too and even if some states conduct it ahead of CBSE, any university cannot start the process leaving behind CBSE, ISCE (Indian School Certificate Examinations ) or the home state school board results.

Once the CBSE results are out, universities, engineering colleges and IITs will start their entrances and new academic admission process.”

Additionally, students planning to study abroad may suffer admission uncertainties to foreign universities. They may have to succumb to earlier preferences and select colleges/universities based on availability.

US, UK, Australia and Canada are the key study abroad destinations that have a drive of about 200 students, for each country every year. However, considering the pool of Indian students getting admissions in UK universities every year, the country might offer relaxations in this regard.
