The Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, is to submit its official response to the request of the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision on the conduct of the Board's examinations pending.

SC asked CBSE to share its response after a group of parents had lodged a plea seeking cancellation of the CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th examinations 2020.

According to a senior CBSE official, the board would inform the apex court today of its decision, i.e. June 23, 2020.

Official notification of the decision would be issued only after the hearing and in accordance with the directives of the High Court.

According to a reputable source, a senior CBSE official told reporters, "The decision will be notified to the court on Tuesday and an official notification will be issued in accordance with the instructions of the highest court."

Speaking of the competitive examinations JEE and NEET, the official added that "the decision on the two examinations will also be taken in accordance with the decision on the board examinations."

According to the revised CBSE 10th Date Sheet 2020 and CBSE 12th Date Sheet 2020, the examinations are scheduled to take place between July 1 – 15, 2020

The conduct of the pending board review in the context of the rising emergency crisis due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus raised concerns among parents and students.

A group of parents moved to the Supreme Court, requesting the cancellation of the remaining 10th, 12th Board examinations. The plea in law refers to the Board's decision to cancel the remaining examinations in schools located abroad.

It also pointed out that 24 students were quarantined in Karnataka after the examination was carried out and that the parent of one student was found to be COVID-19 positive.

In addition to the SC request, the governments of Maharashtra, Delhi and Odisha also urged the HRD Ministry to cancel the CBSE 10th Board Exam 2020 and the CBSE 12th Board Exam 2020.

In his letter to MHRD, Manish Sisodia mentioned the lack of availability of schools to conduct an examination in Delhi. The Board is expected to respond to its decision whether or not to cancel today's hearing.

Parents and students were eager to understand the final decision as the CBSE board exams were about a week away.

More than 10 lakh students (of classes 10 and 12) are expected to appear in one or more papers.

Among these students, students from the North East Delhi district are more concerned as they are expected to appear in core papers such as English, Physics, etc. that they missed as a result of riots in the region at the end of February 2020 and in March 2020.

In a related matter, ICSE or CISCE, the other national board whose pending examinations are scheduled to take place in July, offered students the option of 'appearing either' for examinations or 'choosing to obtain marks on the basis of internal assessment, pre-boards' as decided by the board.

Students are required to inform their schools and update their choices by June 24, 2020.

Earlier, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that CBSE 10th Results 2020 and CBSE 12th Results 2020 will be released almost a month after the completion of the pending exams.

The 10th, 12th, board results were expected to be released by August 15. However, now the release of CBSE Class 10 Results 2020 and CBSE Class 12 Results 2020 completely depend upon the decision which will be taken today.
