October 10, 2020: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) along with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) is more likely to further cut off the syllabus for Class 10th and 12th Board Examination 2021.

According to a senior official of the Board, "Post 30% reduction in July, there has been no normal classes and if the situation continues like this, there is a likelihood of further reduction of the syllabus for the Board Exam".

He further stated that the Board will take a call regarding the conduction of the examination based on 70% or 50% of the syllabus.

The Chief Executive of Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), Mr. Gerry Arathoon said," Given the present scenario, there is a possibility of further reduction of the syllabus. Though, one cannot say right now to what extent it could be slashed for the 2021 examination."

CBSE officials stated that the standard for online classes may differ from schools in urban areas to schools in rural areas. Therefore, the exam authority is planning to conduct physical classes before the examination.

He further stated, "We will have to wait for it to happen and review the situation. Therefore, in all likelihood, the Board exam may have to be shifted to April or beyond to accommodate classroom teaching and completion of the syllabus".

"Schools are also asking us to defer the dates as well to reduce the syllabus by 50%", said a CBSE official.

CBSE and CISCE are now waiting to receive a green signal from the ministry of education in this matter. The Board examination will be conducted under the strict COVID-19 SOPs released by the Ministry of Education for Schools.

The Chief Executive of CISCE said," We are waiting for some direction — whether the academic year will be extended so that the syllabus can be completed. Then the exams will have to be shifted, probably to May or even later".

The Board Examination of CBSE and CISCE is usually conducted in the month of February to March. But due to the quandary caused by the pandemic, this year the commencement of the examination in the month of February may not be possible.

For the 2020 Board Examination, the CBSE and CISE could not complete the syllabus of classes. Hence the marks were given on the basis of revised assessment schemes for the remaining examinations.
