In the media release issued by IIM Indore on September 15, 2020, not only was CAT 2020 registration extended till September 23, but also new changes were introduced in CAT exam pattern. 

CAT 2020 is scheduled to be conducted on November 29, 2020 (Sunday) in three sessions. Check CAT 2020 Exam Calendar IIM Indore has released updated test slots for the exam day as follows:

• Morning: 8.30 AM to 10.30 AM
• Afternoon: 12.30 PM to 2.30 PM
• Evening: 4.30 PM to 6.30 PM

Since the duration of the test has been revised, the paper will now be of 120 minutes (2 hours) comprising of three sections:

1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
3. Quantitative Ability

Candidates will be given 40 minutes to answer questions from each section and will not be allowed to switch from one section to another while answering.

What to expect from changed CAT Exam Pattern?

With the reduction in total duration and to maintain the difficulty level of the paper, one can expect that IIM Indore might also reduce the total number of questions.

Since the timing has decreased from 1/3rd ( from 180 minutes to 120 minutes), it is expected that each section in CAT will contain around 20-25 questions, making it a total of 60 to 75 questions (to be attempted in 40 minutes).

Scenario 1: If the institute decides on lessening questions in each section to 25, a candidate can expect around 16 questions from Reading Comprehension (4 each) and around 9 questions from Verbal Ability. 1-1 caselet might get reduced from DI & LR.

Scenario 2: If the total number of questions remains 75, CAT 2020 difficulty level can be expected to be easy. However, if total questions are 60, difficulty level can be expected to be the same as that of previous years.
