New Delhi: IIM Bangalore is all set to conduct the CAT entrance exam this year for admission to top B-schools including the renowned IIMs. The registration window is expected to open in the first week of August, 2022.
An official notification confirming that IIM Bangalore will organise the CAT 2022 exam for the academic year 2022-23 will be released this month along with the dates of the exam. However, the exam is expected to be held tentatively on November 27, 2022.
This is the second time that IIM Bangalore will be conducting the CAT exam after a gap of 6 years. Earlier, in 2016, the institute conducted the exam. According to the latest reports, this year the exam will have some new changes in test content and structure. Professor Ashis Mishra, faculty in Marketing Area and Chairperson Admissions at IIM Bangalore will be the Convener of the CAT 2022 exam.
Every year, the CAT entrance exam is conducted for admissions to MBA/ PGPM/ Executive MBA/ PGDM and other management programmes offered by 20 IIMs and over 1000+ management institutes in India. Over 2 lakh candidates register for the MBA entrance exam.

CAT 2022: Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university/ institute with a minimum of 50% marks.
- The minimum required marks for ST/ SC/ PwD category candidates is 45%.
- There is no age restriction to apply.
- Work experience is not mandatory to apply.
CAT 2022: Exam Pattern
- CAT 2022 will have a total of 66 questions.
- The question pattern of CAT 2022 will be distributed into three sections – Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA).
- It will be held in a computer-based test mode with both MCQs and non-MCQs.
- The duration of the exam is 120 minutes.
- As per the marking scheme, three marks are awarded for every right answer whereas for every wrong attempt there will be a deduction of 1 mark.
Although the CAT 2022 exam pattern is likely to resemble the CAT 2021, it is expected that the official notification will shed light on the updated pattern. Apart from IIMs, some of the top MBA colleges that accept CAT scores are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR, Mumbai, JBIMS Mumbai, GLIM Chennai, TAPMI Manipal, GIM Goa, FORE School of Management, KJ Somaiya Mumbai, etc.
